J K Tyres setting up new unit in Sriperumpudur

J K Tyres is planning to set up a new manufacturing facility in Sriperumpudur near Chennai with an investment of Rs. 15000 million. It will manufacture truck tyres and passenger car radials. Currently, the company has five manufacturing bases in India, including one near Mysore and a acquired plant in Mexico. The passenger car radials is likely to be manufactured by end of 2011.

Ceat to expand its manufacturing capacity at Halol

Ceat Ltd, a RP Goenka group company, which has set up a manufacturing facility in Halol is planning to increase its capacity to 300 tonnes per day from 130 tpd with an investment of Rs. 6300 million. The company has ambitious plans to increase the Halol plant capacity 4 times to take the total capacity to 600 tpd. It is also expanding the Nashik tyre plant by 35 tpd. Currently, there is huge demand for tyres and leading OEM’s complain about lack of supply in tyres. A significant portion of new capacity will make radial tyres for commercial vehicles like trucks, buses etc., Indian market is moving towards radial tyres in commercial vehicles too considering the longer life and better road grip of tyres

Bridgestone plans greenfield tyre unit at Chakan

Bridgestone India, a subsidiary of Bridgestone Corp, Japan is planning to invest Rs. 26000 million over a period of five years to set up a greenfield manufacturing unit at Chakan near Pune. It will manufacture radial tyres for passenger cars, trucks and buses. The company will start to manufacture passenger radials by January 2013 and bus radials by August 2014. Metro Tyres to expand capacity in Ludhiana

Metro Tyres, a leading manufacturer of two-wheeler tyres is planning to invest Rs. 500 million to expand its Ludhiana unit from 50,000 units /month to 150,000 units per month. The replacement market is witnessing a boom and the company intends to cash most of it. It has already signed an technology agreement with Continental AG of Germany to set up state-of-the-art plant in Ludhiana.

The company is planning to invest Rs. 1000 million to set up a greenfield unit in Manesar besides increasing its motorcycle tyre capacity to 4 lakh units /month. Currently, the company has 25% share in the bicycle tyre market in India.
