Volvo Construction Equipment has launched a full fledged telematics system for enabling better man machine communication. The equipment will use GRPS/GPS to send information to a remote online connection for gathering data on vehicle movement, fuel consumption and hours of operation will provide help in site management. The system called “CareTrack” will be delivered along with equipment with no charge with 3 year activation
Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles (VECV) a joint-venture company of Volvo and Eicher is planning to expand its engine manufacturing facility at Pithampur. Currently, the company is producing around 40,000 engines of 5 litre to 8 litre capacity at Pithampur for buses and trucks. It is planning to invest Rs.2880 million to increase its capacity to 85,000 engines per year, where it will produce the advanced Euro-V and Euro-VI engines to meet the needs of European market. It will export 30,000 engines to its Venissieux plant in France. The new engine unit is likely to become operational by mid 2012.
The company is also investing Rs. 12000 million to expand its capacity of trucks and buses
from 5500 units per month to 6500 units per month, besides setting up a bus body plant, new products development etc.,
Volvo, a leader in construction equipment has entered India in 2008 by acquisition of Ingersoll Rand road equipment division in Bangalore. It is planning to invest Rs.900 million at Peenya facility in Bangalore to manufacture medium sized excavators. It is also expanding its dealer network and plans to export it to Asian markets after catering to the growing domestic market.
